Your Customers are Mobile, you will be too …

In this quick tutorial we will show you how to add your own favicon to your Tumblr blog or theme. We will start by finding if your theme is set up for a favicon. We will then add our desired favicon to our Tumblr blog.

Tumblr: Adding a Favicon to your Tumblr Blog or Theme

First lets check to see if our blog is set up to display a favicon. Most basic themes have them but occasionally new theme designers do forget to include them.

1. Login into your Tumblr blog and click on the settings button at the top of your dashboard.

4. In the head of HTML file that opens search for a line that looks something like this:

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="{Favicon}" />

If this line is not present in the head of the file add it. With this line if we have a profile portrait photo it will be automatically be used to generate a favicon. Often though we will want something else as our favicon. Hopefully we already have a favicon created to put in. If not I have already created a tutorial on how to create one. Although that tutorial was aimed at WordPress follow the directions on how to create a favicon then we can continue.

5. Once you have your favicon created upload it to a file hosting service and copy the address of the favicon. We need to replace the {Favicon} in the above line of code with the hard link to the favicon you have created.

For example:

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://yoursite.com/images/favicon.ico" />

6. Once completed click Appearance

7. Click Save to update your Tumblr theme with your favicon and make it live.

I hope you have found this usefully and hope to see you again soon.
