In this quick tutorial we will show you how to change the Standard Moodle Logo to your own logo and how to change the Favicon to one that you have created for yourself. We will not be going into creating these images only how to change them on your Moodle website. If you want more information on creating your own Favicon please visit Photoshop CS5: Favicon Creation and Embedding.
Moodle 2.1: Changing the Moodle Logo and Favicon
Changing the Moodle Logo
Changing the Moodle Logo on a live Moodle Website is actually probably one of the easiest things you will ever do in Moodle. The main thing that you have to remember is that you need to save a copy of your logo in GIF format. Once you have changed your institutions logo to GIF format navigate to where you saved it. Right click on the file and select copy.
Now navigate to your themes folder and you need to create a folder called : pix_core
Open that folder once you have created it and then right click inside this folder and select paste. Rename the file to moodlelogo.gif. Now whenever Moodle goes to put its logo in it will check to see if this folder exists, if it does it will check to see if your theme has a replacement for the logo and if so it will load this image instead of the original Moodle logo.
This is the simplest way to change the logo.
Changing the Moodle Favicon
This again is a simple thing to do. Just as simple as changing the Logo was if not simpler. If you have not already created a favicon for this please visit this tutorial to find out how.
Once you have a favicon to use navigate to where you saved it and right click on it and select copy. Then navigate your theme folder within moodle and to the theme you are working on. Inside the folder for your theme is a folder called “pix”. Inside that folder is a favicon.ico file. Paste your file in this folder, delete the old file and rename your file favicon.ico.
The favicon has now been changed to your custom favicon.
Hope you all found this helpful and see you again soon.
